Database Migration Service GCP lets you move SQL Server workloads now:
- Access the Google Cloud dashboard, select Databases, Database Migration, and create a Connection Profile for a Cloud Storage bucket to transfer SQL Server backup files.
- Create another Connection Profile for the Cloud SQL SQL Server instance you specified.
- To connect both connection profiles, create a migration job and select databases.
- Check the results below to confirm your migration job tested successfully. Start working on the project when ready.
- You can upload complete and ongoing backups of each database's transaction logs to Cloud Storage as often as you like.
- After restoring all backups, the migration phase changes from “Initial Load” to “Incremental Load.” Database Migration Service GCP continuously recovers and searches for transaction log backups.
- Track your migration jobs and decide when to end with the integrated metrics and logs.
- When ready, click “Promote” for Database Migration Service to restore, make available, and finalize the migration.
All done! Use your newly generated Cloud SQL for SQL Server database.
Price of Database Migration Service
Database Migration Service is free for homogenous migrations, when the source and destination databases utilize the same engine. This entails transferring MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server to Cloud SQL and AlloyDB.
Heterogeneous database engine migrations are billed per byte per migration job. Bytes are counted from uncompressed data.
